EUROPEAN PROJECT
Urban Lab is Lead Partner of the European project EUCANET – European Agencies Network for citizenship, inclusion, involvement and empowerment of communities through the urban transformation process, financed by the Europe for Citizens program and aiming at creating an European network of urban centers to support a greater civic engagement in urban debate and decisional processes. Urban Lab led the project on behalf of the City of Torino , one of its founding members.
EUCANET explores the means by which the European citizens might actively contribute to the definition of the development priorities of the cities and communities they live in and supports the reinforcement of the interactions among public authorities, civil society, local institutions, social and economic actors.
Urban agencies (urban centers, shared neighborhood houses, local development agencies) that are active in many European cities, are a good observation point to better understand how the public debate might generate a wide and shared enough discussion arena to bring out different demands, interests, values, perspectives and ideas about the socio-economic development of our urban systems, activating energies, resources, opportunities.
Through EUCANET, such organizations become concrete and operational tools to improve the level of inclusion of citizens, triggering processes that put local communities at the center of urban policies and supporting the creation and co-creation of public goods and services.
