Urban Lab (Urban Center Metropolitano), Politecnico di Torino, Ordine degli Architetti PPC della Provincia di Torino and Fondazione per l’architettura / Torino present “Beyond the border. Portraits of 4 European cities for Torino”, an international conference dedicated to pilot cases of urban regeneration on a large scale and of virtuous urban operations started in Europe over the last years. This initiative is the first of a series of opportunities of public debate, while the elaboration of the new city masterplan for Torino takes place. After a deep physical and socioeconomic transformation process, which involved the entire urban system over the last twenty years, now our city has to face a season during which it will be necessary to build new strategic horizons and new development prospects. The main goal of this conference will be to explore what is already happening in other urban contexts, by inviting the spokepeople of four European cities (Copenhagen, Lyon, Marseille, Rotterdam) to illustrate their own development and urban regeneration policies. Virtuous cases where physical transformation meets socio-economical development, facilitating the start of regeneration processes of whole districts and joining energies, resources, actors and expertise of all kinds. The narration of what is happening beyond the border will be combined with in-depth analysis about specific themes that in various capacities intercept challenges, goals and urban matters at the centre of Torino’s debate.
